Rhythm and pattern

Rhythm

This photo looks at rhythm. I have converted it to black and white because in the weak sunshine and cold light, the colours looked subdued. The eye follows the curvature of the boats from one to another creating the sense of rhythm.

In this next photo of a reed bed, the rhythm has been created by the use of a slower shutter speed to show some movement. The reed heads are at a similar height and being blown by the wind. Whilst taking the photographs, the sun came out and lit the reeds. The golden colour has highlighted the reeds, transforming the picture from a dull shot into a shot with texture and colour. The interesting sky helped, (although if you look closely you can see the power line.)

Pattern

This colourful fungus was growing on the bark of a recently felled tree. There was a colour contrast between the orange fungus and the green ivy which initially drew me in to look more closely.  I was using a new lens which is a wide angle macro lens and was keen to see the detail I could achieve. Cropping in tightly so that only the fungus is visible allows viewer to imagine the pattern repeating outside of the frame.
