I started work on the following exercises whilst on holiday. After I received my tutor feedback from the last assignment, I looked in detail at what I had already completed. I have spent time revisiting some of the exercises and reading around the subject to improve my composition.
This exercise lookes at the position of a point within a frame.
Picture 1 Point close to the edge

I have divided this photo to show the position of the post in relation to the rest of the frame. The post is set to onw side. This works because it gives a sense of proportion and movement to the picture. I have used the base of the tree line for my horizontal divion though the point.
Picture 2 A little off centre
 |
1/250 F9 ISO200 Focal length 50mm (Polarising filter) |
The boat is positioned a little off centre. This gives the picture a sense of movement. The boat still has somewhere to go. The horizon is positioned to give a more dynamic feel to the composition. I think this works.
Picture 3 In the middle
 |
1/200 F10 ISO200 Focal Length 28mm |
This point is placed in the middle of the frame. It would be a very static picture without the curves of the steps.
On reflection, I think this point is too small as it is hardly visible.
