Control the strength of a colour
F4 1/350 ISO200 93mm
F4.5 1/350 ISO200 93mm
F5.6 1/350 ISO200 93mm
F6.7 1/350 ISO200 93mm
F8 1/350 ISO200 93mm
These 5 identical pictures show the difference in saturation and brightness when all that is changed is the aperture. With the smaller F number (e.g.F4) , there is more light being let into the camera, so the picture is brighter. Similarly, a large F number (e.g F8) has a smaller hole so less light is let in through the lens.
The main colour is yellow (hue). The saturation ranges from picture 1 which could be described as pure, intense, saturated, through to dull, weak, unsaturated (picture 5). The brightness in picture 1 can be described as very bright, picture 2 is bright, picture 3 is fairly bright, picture 4 is slightly dark and picture 5 is dark.
