Learning from shutter speeds

Sunday 17th April 2011

Whilst at Rufford Country Park, we walked round to the ford to watch the cars. I took a few shots on a slow shutter speed and a fast shutter speed to look at the effect of water at slow and fast shutter speeds.

This photo shows some speed because of the blurry background. The car must have been travelling at approximately the same speed as the car in the picture below because the displacement of the water is similar.

I prefer the shot where the water looks frozen (1/1000) because I think it gives a sense of speed. This shot looks tidier to me because the background is not blurred.
A lot of the shots depended on the speed of the cars. I was able to see where the water went and whether the driver would get wet if his window was open.

I proved that you could have open windows and stay dry!
